Smarties are better than M&M's That's it. Ever since childhood if I see a bowl of candy from a distance I hope it's Smarties but it's usually a disappointing bowl of M&M's. M&M that is only the chocolate and the sugar coating. They're nicer to bite into than Smarties and I like sucking on the until you're almost through the sugar coat then you bite. First, Smarties are slightly bigger than M&Ms. An M&M is approximately 1 cm in diameter while the Smartie is 1.5 cms. However, the Smartie is slightly flatter than the M&M. I didn't weigh them. The most noticeable difference between the two is the candy shell. The Smartie shell is much thicker and has a very pronounced crunch to it.
